Our Story

Mountain DAWGS started with a simple belief: dogs deserve more than a quick sidewalk break. Here in Summit County, were surrounded by trails, alpine air, and wide-open space, so instead of defaulting to neighborhood walks, we seek outdoor adventures that give dogs real enrichment and a true reset.

But adventure only works when its paired with safety. Through volunteering with Summit Lost Pet Rescue, weve seen firsthand how preventable mistakes and under-qualified care can lead to dogs getting loose, lost, or put at risk.

Thats why we built Mountain DAWGS around safe, controlled adventures. Our goal is to give you confidence that your dog is not only having fun, but is being handled with the care, awareness, and preparation that mountain outings require.

Adventure Walks & Hikes

Year-round, conditions permitting

From gentle lakeside strolls to mountain hikes, we match each outing to your dogs fitness, temperament, and what the day allows for.

We typically keep walks one-on-one to give your dog our full attention, and we can accommodate multiple dogs from the same household. For dogs who enjoy social time, we can coordinate buddy hikes with compatible dogs and may bring one of our dogs along when temperament and safety allow.

Pickup, Drop-off, or Meet at the Trailhead

To maximize your dogs time on trail, we can pick up and drop off at your home or meet you at your preferred trailhead (great for visitors and busy schedules).

1.52 hours (typically ~45 miles)$65

  • Post-outing towel-off if needed, plus photos and a short report card.

Policies & Weather

Summit County changes fast. We keep it flexible, but never sloppy.

  • Weather: we go out in snow and light rain. We reschedule for lightning, high wind, or unsafe conditions.
  • Cancellations: please give as much notice as possible so we can re-route the day (your scheduling system will enforce the final policy once live).
  • Meet & Greet: a 45-minute first visit before we schedule longer excursions, so we can confirm handling needs, home access, and emergency preferences. Visiting from out of town? Ask about our Flex Meet & Greet, which can extend into a bigger hike if its a good fit.

Our Safety Promise

In Summit County, a little adventure can turn serious fast, so we plan every outing like a mini-expedition: clear rules, the right gear, constant awareness, and calm leadership.

1) Individual outings by default

Most adventures are 1:1. We only buddy hike if temperament and safety allow.

2) Secure handling, always

Structured movement at doors, cars, and trailheads where escapes often happen.

3) Harness-first safety

We use hard-to-slip harnesses rather than loose collars and do a fit check before every outing.

4) GPS tracking encouraged

We encourage GPS tracking collars as an added layer of safety in a mountain environment.

5) Trail protocols

We plan around weather, crowds, and terrain. We prioritize hydration and paw safety.

6) Emergency readiness

Prepared, not paranoid. We follow a stop, secure, assess approach.

Emergency Protocol

  • Stop, secure, assess: leash/harness secured first, then we evaluate.
  • Owner contact: we call/text you immediately with a clear update.
  • Vet plan: we follow your preferred vet instructions (or the nearest urgent care if time-sensitive).
  • Documentation: we share location details and a brief incident summary.

Our volunteering with Summit Lost Pet Rescue influences how we operate: prevention first, calm control, and disciplined response.

Services & Outings

Most outings are one-on-one so your dog gets our full attention. We can accommodate multiple dogs from the same household, and we may offer buddy hikes for safe socialization with compatible dogs (sometimes including one of ours) when temperament and safety allow.

Off-leash time is available by request and only when its appropriate. We prioritize safety first and will assess your dogs recall, responsiveness, and comfort level before approving off-leash outings. If conditions change, we leash up, no debate.

Yes. We tailor outings to age and ability: puppies often do best with shorter, structured adventures, while seniors benefit from gentler routes, slower pacing, and extra breaks; well confirm whats appropriate during the meet-and-greet.

Yes. We can add a quick home check-in for feeding, fresh water, potty breaks, and a little love; just leave clear instructions in your profile (amounts, routines, allergies) or message us ahead of time.

Yes. Youll receive a quick recap after each outing, often with photos, plus notes on energy level, behavior, and bathroom breaks; for hikes, we can also share a GPS route/map when available.

Booking & Payment

Book online or call us directly. We recommend 4872 hours notice, and even earlier for weekends, holidays, and peak vacation periods.

Please cancel or reschedule at least 24 hours in advance; late cancellations are charged as a full visit since our outings are one-on-one and capacity is limited. If weather makes conditions unsafe during your scheduled time, well contact you to cancel, reschedule, or make other arrangements and you wont be charged.

Yes. We offer pre-paid 10-packs and monthly subscriptions, which are great for consistent routines and priority scheduling during busy weeks.

We collect a credit card in advance to keep on file in our secure payment system, and we charge at the conclusion of service (cash is also accepted at the time of service). We also offer pre-paid 10-packs and monthly subscriptions.

Safety & Care

Rabies vaccination is required before service. In Summit County we also recommend DAP and Lepto (lots of stream-and-pond adventures), plus heartworm and flea/tick prevention.

We plan ahead for the unexpected by storing your emergency instructions in our system. If something happens, well contact you immediately, follow your guidance, and get prompt veterinary care if needed.

Summit County is home to a variety of wildlife, and most encounters are uneventful. If we see wildlife, we keep a safe distance so it stays a calm moment, not a chase; in known moose corridors and higher-activity areas, we keep dogs leashed and choose routes with safety in mind.

We store entry details securely in our scheduling system, and access is limited to Mountain DAWGS owners and your Adventure Guide on the day of service. For returning clients, we can let ourselves in/out when youre not available and follow any special instructions.
